Since 1991 places the schoolchildren of Holten Canadian War Cemetery on Christmas Eve at the lighted candles on the graves of the fallen. This idea came from Ms Leena Dam, Finnish by birth,
Schoolchildren gather on Christmas Eve at 16:30 at the entrance of the cemetery. Under the sounds of a midwinter and the tones of a bagpipe enter the children's cemetery to place the burning candles. Hundreds of interested follow this brief but moving ceremony .
The candles burn late into the night and put the cemetery in an impressive yellow glow.
